In what might be one of the most surprising developments of this election cycle, Donald Trump was almost right about something on Saturday.
It’s like all the stars and planets and moons aligning, I know. But it happened.
Amongst all his rambling nonsense and usual spewing of hatred, lies, and stupidity, Trump told the Faith & Freedom Coalition something that was kinda, sorta, likely inadvertently true.
What did he say? That a gas truck can go from New York to California without having to stop for gas.
Now, as I said, this isn’t entirely right…but it is somewhat close. And I think we have to give Dirty Donald the mulligan here, much like he gets in the golf games he cheats at.
Trump was mocked for the comment on Shitter (also known as X), but according to some rudimentary or elementary research (which Trump would call “edimentary leasearch”), an advanced semi can store up to 300 gallons of gas, which can allow it to travel around 2,000 or even 2,100 miles (see here and here).
Now, there are a lotta, lotta things to note as caveats here. First, usually this requires two tanks on the same truck, holding around 150 gallons each. But Trump didn’t specify the number of tanks required, so he’s in the clear for that one. Second, as the sites I cite above note (and as many a trucker on various forums across the internet seem to report), there are a lot of other factors to consider, including weight, the type of fuel you’re using, and the route you’re taking. More typically, a truck can go between 400 and 800 miles without having to refuel, though it’s definitely not unheard of for a truck to go a thousand miles or more.
Is this what Trump said? Did he say that only the most advanced trucks loaded with two tanks of fuel can go most of the way from New York to LA? No. But he’s Trump. And he’s a complete moron. So I think we have to give him some leeway here.
And, yes, a Tesla Semi can already do 500 miles (similar to what most gas-powered semis do) on a single charge, and that’s likely to improve. Also yes, the more important thing is that, if ever president again, Trump will engage in policies that will likely be terribly damaging to the environment. And, yes again, he’s still the scum of the earth and a complete and utter buffoon who just happened upon something that resembled a fact.
But if we’re going to be fair and balanced to the mentally unbalanced, we have to admit that Trump maybe shouldn’t be mocked as much for his comment about transcontinental trucks in the same way he should be mocked, disavowed, and reviled for all of the other vain, racist, bigoted, banal, and just outright stupid things he says.
Fair enough?
You're a loser. Who's the liar? The guy who said he drove an 18-wheeler and his uncle was eaten by cannibals? Not that guy. He's fine. So all the times he fell down or fell off his bike don't count? Talking to dead people doesn't count either I guess? Let's go Brandon. And Gold, Foxtrot, Yankee clown boy.
Why do you pay people to fuck your mom? That’s disgusting
